Effect of inorganic fertilizer application on soil microbial diversity in an oil palm plantation

Excessive fertilizer applications in oil palm plantations are conventionally done to increase the yield, but they result high production cost and environmental pollution. There have been only separate reports on effects of application soil physical, chemical characteristics, microbial biodiversity. Therefore, this study was conducted determine correlation between characteristics biodiversity plantation after long-term frequent compared with secondary soil, using molecular methods polymerase chain reaction denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (PCR-DGGE) MiSeq. Secondary forest chosen as control. The results showed that 25 years application, total nitrogen organic carbon contents decreased from low very scale, indicating infertility condition. Reduction Firmicutes related suppression borne diseases, Bacteroidetes which is an indicator health were both almost eliminated application. In conclusion, inorganic reduced nitrogen, carbon, altered beneficial microbes soil.
